WEBINAR: BREASTFEEDING GUIDELINES FOR CHEMICALLY DEPENDENT WOMEN
By: Ira J. Chasnoff, MD
Monday, August 14th 5:30-7:30pm
SPOKES 3765 Higuera, Ste. 140, San Luis Obispo
Our next meeting will require a little work on your part beforehand. The Coalition has purchased a 50 min webinar for you to watch before the meeting. We will spend the first half of the meeting discussing the webinar.
To have the webinar sent to you, email us at email@example.com.
- "Women with a chemical dependence frequently have poor family and social support networks and few positive relationships with other women. These factors contribute to low rates of breastfeeding in women addicted to illicit drugs. However, breastfeeding can enhance the mother/child relationship and is the healthiest means of feeding the infant. This presentation discusses the pros and cons of breastfeeding by women with a history of substance abuse and will provide guidelines that encourage breastfeeding but at the same time protect the newborn from harm by substances that cross into the breast milk."
Questions to keep in mind while you watch:
- What is the situation with chemically dependent women (CDW) at your organization/work?
- Have you seen a change in the last 3-5 years in the number of CDW, the illicit drugs they are using, the manner in which these cases are handled, etc.?
- What did you learn from the webinar that you will take back to improve your work situation?
The second half of the meeting, we will discuss business items, such as our upcoming October 11th Milk Drive at French Hospital, how other Coalition's are structured, World Breastfeeding Month, Breastfeeding Survey for Mothers of Premature Infants, etc.
Our potluck dinner will begin at 5:30pm and discussion commences at 6:00pm. Please bring a main dish, side dish, or dessert.
