- "Women with a chemical dependence frequently have poor family and social support networks and few positive relationships with other women. These factors contribute to low rates of breastfeeding in women addicted to illicit drugs. However, breastfeeding can enhance the mother/child relationship and is the healthiest means of feeding the infant. This presentation discusses the pros and cons of breastfeeding by women with a history of substance abuse and will provide guidelines that encourage breastfeeding but at the same time protect the newborn from harm by substances that cross into the breast milk."
Questions to keep in mind while you watch:
- What is the situation with chemically dependent women (CDW) at your organization/work?
- Have you seen a change in the last 3-5 years in the number of CDW, the illicit drugs they are using, the manner in which these cases are handled, etc.?
- What did you learn from the webinar that you will take back to improve your work situation?
The second half of the meeting, we will discuss business items, such as our upcoming October 11th Milk Drive at French Hospital, how other Coalition's are structured, World Breastfeeding Month, Breastfeeding Survey for Mothers of Premature Infants, etc.
Our potluck dinner will begin at 5:30pm and discussion commences at 6:00pm. Please bring a main dish, side dish, or dessert.

If heading on 101/N toward San Luis Obispo, take the Los Osos Valley exit. Turn left after exiting onto Los Osos Valley Road. Once arriving at the stop light at the S. Higuera intersection, make another left. After passing Tank Farm Road, Hind Lane will be the first street on the right. As soon as you turn onto Hind Lane, you will see a large parking to your left. Take the second entrance into the parking lot – Spokes is located in between D A Craghead Construction and Wolfpack Gear.
If heading on 101/S toward San Luis Obispo, take the Madonna/CA-227 exit. Turn right after exiting onto Madonna Rd/227. Turn right onto Higuera Street, then head straight for a little over a mile. After you pass the light at Granada Drive, Hind Lane will be the second street on the left. Turn left onto Hind Lane, and there will be a large parking to your left. Take the second entrance into the parking lot – Spokes is located in between DA Craghead Construction and Wolfpack Gear.
Parking
Parking is available in any unmarked spaces, or those labeled ‘Spokes’ directly in front of our office. If lot is full, there is street parking along Hind Lane.
